A Simple Solution for Keeping the Rear Doors Open for Loading

~written by Kyle Eaton December 1, 2005

We deal with loading and unloading people, cargo and various items into our Bush Hawks on a daily basis. When we first received our first Found #30, it was obvious that we needed to come up with a solution to keep the rear doors open in windy conditions - mainly to prevent damage to the door and to the people working around it. Since that time, we have also applied this simple, inexpensive solution to #48 which takes only a few minutes and has worked to keep the doors open in winds in excess of 30 knots.

What you will need:
(1) Philips Screw Driver
(2) 2 - 12" long bungee cords
(3) 2 - small electrical cable hangers (available at most hardware stores in the electrical section)
(4) electrical tape

Installation Steps:
(1) Remove Philips Screw From Rear Door
(2) Place 1 electical cable hangar where you removed the screw - replace screw fastening cable hangar firmly into place
(3) Insert one end of the bungee cord into the cable hangar
(4) Wrap bungee hook with electrical tape to prevent bungee from falling out
(5) To keep the door open, insert the free end of the bungee into the hole in the back of the step ahead of the front door. The front doors must be closed for the back doors to latch open. That's it! The photos illustrate the steps below:

(1)
Remove Screw
(2)
Place Cable Hanger
(3)
Insert Bungee
(4)
Tape Bungee
(5)
Hook Bungee to Step
(5)
Hang Bungee to Close Door
