Hartzell 84" Round Tip Propellor for floatplane performance!

Found Aircraft Canada currently has two types of 3 bladed propellers that they are installing on factory new aircraft with the 300hp Lycoming:

  • 84.0-inch Round-Tip Hartzell propellor --- HC-C3YR-1RF/F8468A-(2R)
  • 82.0-inch Scemitar propellor ------------- HC-C3YR-1RF/F8068A

Our planes have the 84-inch round tip prop. That prop pulls strong and gets you up on the step fast, helps with the climbs too. Found put the Scemitar prop on as they certified the plane with fowler flaps but never really tested it on floats. Honestly I would never run the scemitar prop with floats, probably works good on wheels fine but doesn’t have the pull anything like the 84 round tip. I actually never flew the Found with the Scemitar, because #30 came with the Round tip. I then heard OAS guys complaining that the performance was like the 206, my mechanic overheard that and told them that ours performs great and they figured it was because they had scemitar props on their aircraft. I talked to Gerd (he flew #29 before getting the fowler flap version he has now) he has experience like us with both the manual and fowler version and said that the scemitar prop on his new plane performed poor. Found sent him a round tip and he said it was night and day difference in performance. Found actually had #48 fitted with the scemitar I discovered 2 months before we were to pick it up. I told them I wasn’t going to take it unless it had the round tip. I notice now that Found is not putting scemitar props on their aircraft anymore, as they learned scemitar is only good for wheels. Gerd even said that his speed is not different between the two props on wheels either; with the scemitar it’s all about making less noise.
